Kent Police evacuate the Isle of Sheppey following explosion threat from Climate Change activists
Kent Police have arranged to evacuate residents living on the Isle of Sheppey, as an immediate action against the threat made by Climate Change activists.
The Climate Change group “Stop Climate Chaos” recently revealed that they “intend to blow up” a sunken WW II US Liberty ship laying on a sandbank east of the Isle of Sheppey. Called the SS Richard Montgomery, the ship reportedly sank on the 20th of August 1944, carrying 7000 tons of munitions, and still contains an approximate 1400 tons of explosives.
30,000 Isle of Sheppey inhabitants’ lives are at risk of a possible explosion at the hands of the “Stop Climate Chaos” activists who “intend to blow up the boat to illustrate the catastrophic damage that Climate Change is doing to our world” according to a statement released this Thursday morning.
A statement released from the Kent Police Headquarters has taken taken preventive measures by “establishing road blocks” along the Sheppey Bridge – linking the island to both the A1 and M2 motorways, and organising the evacuation which is taking place “street by street.”
If the activists proceed as planned, the explosion of the WW II ship – which they refer to as a “potent symbol” of the dangers of Climate Change – has the capacity to cause an impact akin to the detonation of a nuclear bomb, if ignited.
This domestic act of terrorism has provoked fear among many residents. Annabel Missenden, 43, a mother of two, recalls being told by an armed officer with a haler “to leave the island as soon as possible.” She adds that she doesn’t know where her husband is. Ben Crawshaw, 34, a Radio Sheppey DJ also details his experience, saying: “It’s like something out of a James Bond movie.”
